Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2025. WifiPass is built with privacy as a default, not an afterthought.
What we collect
An anonymous Firebase Auth ID. When you open WifiPass for the first time, we sign you in anonymously. This ID lets us prevent abuse on writes (creating new hotspots, voting on passwords). It is not linked to any personal information.
Hotspot data you choose to share. If you tap "Add hotspot" and submit a location and password, that data is sent to our backend so other travelers can find it. You decide what to publish.
Anonymous analytics. Firebase Analytics records aggregate metrics — how many users open the map, which features are used. We never see your identity.
Anonymous analytics
On this website (wifipass.io) we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are popular, how people navigate, where they come from. You decide whether we run it: a banner asks on your first visit. If you decline, Google Analytics is never loaded and no measurement cookies are set. If you accept, Google Analytics runs in IP-anonymized mode (Consent Mode v2). Your decision is stored in your browser's localStorage and you can change it any time by clearing site data.
The iOS app is separate. Inside WifiPass the iOS app, Firebase Analytics records aggregate events via Apple's anonymous IDFV. We never see your identity in either place.
What we do not collect
- Your name, email, phone number, or any account credentials.
- Your location coordinates server-side — they stay on-device.
- Your contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or device identifiers beyond what Apple's anonymous IDFV provides for Firebase.
Location
WifiPass uses your device location only to center the map on you and show nearby hotspots. The coordinates are read by iOS Core Location and used in-memory by the app. We never transmit, persist, or share your precise location.
Ads
Free users see a small number of ads served by Google AdMob. During first launch we ask for your consent under the EU's GDPR / IAB TCF framework via Google's User Messaging Platform. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy.
Pro subscribers see no ads at all.
Subscriptions
WifiPass Pro is processed by Apple via the App Store. We use RevenueCat to verify your entitlement. We never see your payment method or Apple ID — Apple handles all billing.
Security
All API calls are protected by Firebase App Check, so only the WifiPass app can read our hotspots database. Traffic is HTTPS end-to-end. Data lives in Google Cloud Firestore in the EU region.
Your rights
You can delete the app at any time, which removes all on-device data. Because we don't store personal information server-side, there is nothing for us to delete on our end. For any question, write to support@wifipass.io.
